"Teach Me Anything"

ARTIST RESEARCH
2I)  evaluates teaching resources and materials for appropriateness as related to curricular content and each student’s needs;

Description: Our class prompt was to create a short video/presentation on a non-art-related topic. I choose to teach my class about the chemical compounds that make jalapenos spicy.

Rationale:  With this assignment, I was to learn about another topic I am interested in (such as biology and chemistry), collect research and sources of my topic, and create a visual aid to present to my class (such as shot gifs and apply it in a video).

Evidence: Attached below is the YouTube link to my video presentation.

Unit Lesson Plan:
Music Assemblage

ELEMENTARY LESSON PLAN
2K)  engages students in the processes of critical thinking and inquiry and addresses standards of evidence of the disciplines;
3B)  understands how to develop short- and long-range plans, including transition plans, consistent with curriculum goals, student diversity, and learning theory;
7B)  understands that assessment is a means of evaluating how students learn and what they know and are able to do in order to meet the Illinois Learning Standards;

Description: This lesson plan is a "Music Assemblage" where we exercise visualizing a song with collage/mixed media.

Rationale: Our learning objectives go as follows:

  1. Students will be able to successfully use tools such as scissors and glue sticks to create their assemblage/collage.

  2. Students will be able to successfully search, save, and apply images from magazines for their assemblage/collage.

  3. Students will be able to express and communicate a positive outlook for the term using personal style and aesthetics by creating at least 1 assemblage/collage that represents what they envision while listening to the song.

  4. Students will be able to verbally explain their work: title, colors, elements of design, etc.

  5. Students will comment on at least 2 peers’ work using the TAG (Tell, Ask a Question, Give Feedback) method with post-it notes during class critique/presentation day.

Evidence: Attached below, I've added a document link to my lesson plan outline.

PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 1
7G: understands the need for continuing study, self-evaluation, and professional growth.

PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 2
7N: advances his or her knowledge of current developments in the field by participating in professional development activities (e.g., coursework, professional organizations, and workshops).

Description: This semester, I had the privilege of participating in the Illinois Art Station Pop Up Art show where I displayed three pieces of work. They were three mixed media (acrylic, modeling paste) pieces on 11" wooden circles. This is a series called, "Cafecito en la Mañana", and it's about trying something new and out of my comfort zone.

Rationale: Art is a way of expressing myself; this is what I want to encourage my future students. To experiment, learn, express, make, and have fun.

Evidence: Photos are attached below of the event.
